This residence was turned over to the owners from the contractor as a white box space, a blank space. The challenge in creating and implementing a sound lighting concept was all in the detailing – the configuration of the ceiling changes and the thoughtful approach to comfortable and flexible lighting. As an existing space, there were challenges in recessing into ceilings that were already finished, and decisions had to be made regarding demo.

At the core, the clients love art, so flexibility and color were key. After going through a rigorous schematic process where integrated detailing was at the forefront of the conversation, the lighting concept was created to utilize indirect sources for as much lighting as possible outside the lighting used to accent art. This required a full lighting control system so that scenes could be appropriately set for time of day, event as well as day to day. Dimming was a must have. The scene setting allows the user to enjoy their art while ambient light softly balances the high contrast of the art lighting.
